Indu has been a very active member of Inner Wheel Club Chandigarh Midtown. She held various important assignments. Indu was awarded the prestigious title of 'Inner Wheel Queen' in 2002-03 for her dedicated services. She held the post of Secretary of the club in 2003-04.
In 2004-05 Mrs Indu Vohra was President of Inner Wheel Club of Chandigarh Midtown. Meaningful projects were carried out during the year. Computers were arranged for this school. 20 poor students were adopted to give them education. Poor students were also given computer training. Artificial limbs, hearing aids tricycles and wheel chairs were provided to more than 150 needy disabled patients during the year. Contributions were made for the marriage of 4 poor girls. Most of the expenses on these projects were met out of the contributions and personal efforts and practically no financial burden was put on the club funds. Dr. Vohra, has implemented number of artificial limbs projects for Rotary Club of Chandigarh Midtown and other Rotary Clubs.
Under the above Projects, Dr. Vohra has fitted poor patients with Artificial Limbs and other Prosthetic / assistive devices. Large number of needy disabled patients have been fitted with artificial limbs under these Projects.
In addition to Rotary Club of Chandigarh Midtown, other Rotary Clubs who participated in the artificial limbs project were:
Rotary Club of Milano Sud Est, Italy.
Rotary Club of Grand Prairie, Alberta, Canada.
Rotary Club of Wollaton Park, Nottingham, UK.
Dr. Vohra has done number of artificial limbs projects with other Rotary Clubs also.
Dr. Vohra has been associated with disabled persons since 1973 by providing them artificial limbs and other facilities. Inspite of their disability, these persons had the desire and the initiative to serve the society.
This prompted Dr. Vohra not only to introduce these persons with disabilitys to Rotary but motivated them to be part of Rotary through Rotary Communiity Corps (RCC), which is a group of volunteers who do not have to be members of a Rotary club but share Rotary’s values and commitment. These disabled persons are now applying their own skills to serve and to improve the quality of life in their communities by being active members of RCC of Panchkula and RCC of Dadumajra which were sponsored by Rotary Club of Chandigarh Midtown.
This has been an excellent way to introduce the community to Rotary, through disabled persons, and probably this is the only unique opportunity in the Rotary world where disabled persons have been brought to a Rotary platform. The third RCC Dr. Vohra has got sponsored by Rotary Club of Chandigarh Midtown is the RCC of Khuda Ali Sher, where its members are also committed to serve the community at grass root level.
